PRESS RELEASE

    The Northwest Classical Theatre Company will present Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare to be performed Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from  November 4th thru the 27th @ 7:00pm Fridays and Saturdays and @ 2:00pm Sundays.  Performances are at the Shoe Box Theatre 2110 SE 10th (located on 10th between Lincoln and Grant).  Tickets are $18 General admission $12 Students and Seniors and reservations can be made by calling (503)274-4771.  

    Please be advised that seating is limited. The Shoe Box Theatre, Portland’s newest and most intimate theatrical space, has a maximum seating capacity of 35 per night so interested parties should make their reservations early.   

   Our production is directed by Grant Turner, the Artistic Director and co-founder of the NWCTC. The play has been streamlined to about 100 minutes and the cast list reduced to 12, yet it still retains all of the vital scenes and the famous speeches it is known for.  The production is ideal for the first time theatre-goer and seasoned veteran alike.   

     The play features; Rosalie Miller as Juliet, Grant Turner as Romeo, Richard Reiten as Lord Capulet, Jayson Shanafelt as Mercutio, and Joe Healy as Tybalt.

    The Northwest Classical Theatre Company has also engaged renowned British actor Michael Pennington to record the part of the Chorus for this production.  Mr. Pennington’s credits include leading roles in Hamlet, Timon of Athens, Measure for Measure, Love’s Labour’s Lost, and Romeo and Juliet for the Royal Shakespeare Company, and Macbeth, Coriolanus, Richard II, The Winter’s Tale, and The Wars of the Roses for the English Shakespeare Company (of which he was Co-founder and Joint Artistic director from 1986 to 1992).  In additional Mr. Pennington has written several books, among them Hamlet; A User’s Guide, A Midsummer Night’s Dream; A User’s Guide, and English Shakespeare Company –The Story of the Wars of the Roses (with co-Author Michael Bogdanov).
